Important Dates & Activities 2022
Dear Parent of a 2022 Graduate:
Listed below are quite a few important activities during the months April and May that you and your child need to be aware of.
Monday, April 25: Pick up graduation invitations & cap/gown at all lunches in the commons area. Your child will need to pick up their cap and gown during lunch in the commons. If your child did not order a cap and gown and now realizes they are going to graduate, they will need to call Balfour immediately at 1-713-784-4990 or go to www.Balfour.com to see if they can still order the items.
Friday, April 29: Students receiving any scholarships outside of the Local Scholarship book must inform Mrs. Cindy Martinez, cmartinez@angletonisd.net, in the counselors' office by April 29th. Any student who plans to enlist in the armed services must also notify Mrs. Cindy Martinez by April 29th. In order to be recognized at the end of year Scholarship Ceremony, you must meet this deadline.
Saturday, May 7: Junior/Senior Prom at The Oaks. Remember that all school rules apply. The rule of no thigh, no midriff, and no cleavage will apply for girls.
Tuesday, May 10: Seniors who have met all requirements to receive an academic award will attend an awards ceremony in the auditorium at 10:00 am. Parents will be notified by letter if their child is scheduled to receive an academic award.
Tuesday, May 10: A celebration of student scholarships will take place at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. Students will be recognized for earning scholarships. Parents will be notified by letter if their child is receiving a scholarship. We will also announce the Valedictorian, Salutatorian, top 10, and top 10%. Seniors who are being recognized will be seated in a designated area; they should be there no later than 5:45 pm. Male students must wear pants and a shirt with a collar. Female students must wear dresses, skirts, or dress slacks.
Monday, May 16: Seniors will attend a graduation assembly in the auditorium at 10:00 am to discuss graduation expectations and procedures.
Tuesday, May 17: Last day for seniors to complete Edgenuity courses.
Sunday, May 22: Baccalaureate service will begin at 4:00 pm in the auditorium. Seniors will need to be in their assigned area absolutely no later than 3:15 pm. Participation in Baccalaureate is optional. Your child will need to bring their graduation cap and gown. Males must wear pants and shoes (shorts or flip flops are not allowed). Females must wear dresses, skirts, or dress slacks. If your child chooses to attend Baccalaureate, please remind them that it is a worship service.
Monday, May 23: The Senior Cat Walk will take place at 10:00 am. Seniors will walk the halls of their elementary school in their cap and gown. Seniors will load the bus at AHS at 10:00 am.
Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday. May 23, 24, & 25: Seniors who are not exempt will take semester exams. All seniors must attend their required accounting period class each day, even if they are exempt. If a student does not attend a required class, they will receive a zero for the semester exam.
Thursday, May 26: The list of seniors who will be graduating will be posted at 4:00 pm on front doors. Please tell your child that it will do them no good to call or come by school prior to that time.
Friday, May 27: Graduation practice will be held at Wildcat Stadium at 10:00 am. Students need to wear comfortable clothing, sunscreen, and mosquito repellant. It is at this graduation practice that your child will find out which side of the field they will be seated.
Friday, May 27: Graduation will begin promptly at 7:30 pm. All graduates should arrive before 6:30 pm. Visitors will not need tickets to attend graduation this year. If this changes, we will notify students and parents. Graduates need to bring their robes, caps (may be decorated but must be school appropriate), safety pins, hairpins and any honor cords. Also, appropriate dress is required under the robe. Male students must wear long pants, socks, and shoes (flip-flops are not appropriate). Female students must wear long pants or a dress with appropriate footwear (flip-flops are not appropriate). Failure to dress appropriately will jeopardize a student's participation in the ceremony. No beach balls, silly string, or noise makers will be allowed during the ceremony. It is very important that your child be on time because it takes a long time to line up the graduates and identify the students who do not show up. If your child arrives late, their name may not be called at graduation. No other people will be allowed on the field during the ceremony. We ask that the crowd refrain from using noise-making devices during the ceremony to ensure that all seniors and their families enjoy the honor of hearing their names being called.
We have enjoyed working with your child and look forward to celebrating this major life accomplishment. Please contact us if we may be of assistance to you or your Senior.
Sincerely,
Anthony Smedley
