The Board is the educational policy-making body for the District. To effectively meet the challenges of public education, the Board and the superintendent must function together as a leadership team. Each leadership team must annually assess its development needs as a corporate body and individually to gain its understanding of the vision, structure, accountability, advocacy, and unity needed in performance of all students. The framework for school board development has been approved by the State Board of Education to provide the critical areas of development for all public school boards.

Trustees are elected in May of each year. Two or three positions are elected each year to serve three-year terms. The Board of Trustees is elected by the citizens of Angleton ISD. Trustees serve without compensation, must be registered voters, and must reside in the district.

The Board makes major decisions regarding school policy, curriculum, and expenditures, but it is limited by law and rules set by the State Board of Education. Other duties consist of adopting goals and objectives for the district, reviewing and acting on policies, adopting an annual budget, setting the tax rate, electing school personnel as recommended by the superintendent, and reporting to the public about the District's progress.

Regular Meetings

The AISD Board of Trustees meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Administration Building located at 1900 N. Downing Road.All meetings are open to the public at the conclusion of the executive session that begins at 5:00 p.m.  Under the following circumstances, Texas law permits the Board to go into a closed session for the following reasons: 

• to discuss prospective gifts or donations, real property acquisition, personnel issues including conferences with employees and employee complaints, security matters or student discipline.
• to consult with attorneys regarding pending litigation.

A written notice of regular meetings will be posted on a bulletin board inside the front door of the administration building at least 72 hours before the scheduled meeting time.  The written notice will show the date, time, place, and subjects of each meeting.

(In emergencies, a meeting may be held with two hours notice).

Patrons wishing to participate in the Open Forum part of the board meeting shall sign up as they arrive, indicating the topic about which they wish to speak. Comments should be limited to three minutes. If there is a group with the same issue, one individual should be designated as the spokesperson. No derogatory statement about any board member or employee of Angleton ISD should be made at this time and the use of the name of an individual is not permitted. No action will be taken at the meeting; however, the matter may be referred to the Superintendent for review.

1.3 - Provide systemic and continuous professional development that addresses the social, emotional and academic needs of learners.
1.4 - Create flexible learning environments for diverse learners.

2.1 - Create a service-learning program at each level.
2.2 - Assess cognitive levels of students to implement strategies that strengthen and promote student higher-level thinking and problem-solving.
2.3 - Embed speech and communication learning opportunities for all students across the curriculum.
2.4 - Ensure students develop life and career skills that are consistent with the AISD Learner Profile.

3.1 - Define technology skills needed for students to be prepared for employment or post-secondary education.
3.2 - Create a continuum of technology skills to span all levels.
3.3 - Monitor the implementation of technology integration in the classroom.

4.1 - Increase engagement with parents of students with documented achievement gaps.
4.2 - Disseminate information and resources to all stakeholders (parents, students, educators).
4.3 - Provide professional development to increase teacher proficiency in identifying and addressing achievement gaps among student groups.
4.4 - Implement strategies that close performance gaps with struggling student populations.

5.1 - Educate stakeholders on career pathways, so students can make informed choices.
5.2 - Improve P-16 alignment to better prepare students for college entry and post-secondary success.
5.3 - Improve P-16 alignment to better prepare students for employment.
5.4 - Guide parents and students in the development of a plan that includes high school graduation, post-secondary educational opportunities, and a financial map to achieve their goals.
