(NOTE: Testing is optional for a student who has been exposed to an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19. AISD now has a limited number of tests and will test on campuses as long as tests are available.)

    (1) Exposure at School

    • The campus will contact the parents/students.
    • Parent options:
      • Have the student attend school and the parent may opt to have his/her child tested. (AISD will test on campuses as long as tests are available.)
        • Positive Test Result - The student will be sent home for isolation and will follow the CDC guidelines.
      • Keep the student at home.
        • Campuses shall communicate with students and parents to develop a plan to continue student work during this time.
        • The student may remain at home up to 10 days after exposure.

    (2) Exposure Outside of School

    • Parents/Students must notify the campus.
    • The campus will ask if the student has been isolated from the infected person.
      • If the answer is no or not possible, the student stays home.
        • Campuses shall communicate with students and parents to develop a plan to continue student work during this time.
        • If the student remains symptom-free for 10 days after his/her last exposure to the positive COVID-19 individual, the student will return to campus.
      • If the answer is yes, the parent may:
        • Have the student attend school. The parent may opt for testing. (AISD will test on campuses as long as tests are available.) If the test is positive, the student will be sent home for isolation.
        • Keep the student at home. Campuses shall communicate with students and parents to develop a plan to continue student work during this time.

    • If the student is symptomatic at home, parents should contact the school and keep the student at home.
    • To return to school, the student must:
      • Wait 24 hours after symptom(s) begin
      • Be fever free
      • Have a negative COVID-19 test result
    • Campuses shall communicate with students and parents to develop a plan to continue student work during this time.

    (4) Positive COVID-19

    • If a student has a positive COVID test, he/she must be isolated for at least 10 days after the beginning of symptoms or the date of the positive test, depending on which occurs first.
    • The student may return if he/she is fever-free and symptoms have improved after this 10-day period.
