Frontier Return to School & Campus Reopening Plan

  • return to school plan banner

The information in the individual school reopening plan applies mostly to students who will participate in On-Campus Learning.

For the safety of everyone, staff, students and visitors will wear masks. We will allow a few mask breaks throughout the day where we will ensure social distancing.

Bus transportation will be available to eligible riders. Students will have their temperatures taken prior to boarding the bus, and masks will be worn. We are encouraging parents to drop off and pick up their children if possible. A FastPass will be provided by the AISD Transportation Department for bus riders.

If children have fever when they enter the building or become sick throughout the day, they will be secluded in a classroom and monitored by a staff member until the parents/guardians arrive to pick them up.

Car Riders - Our car rider drop off will now be located through the large, side parking lot.  We will begin unloading cars at 7:10 am. Students may not exit their cars without a staff member on duty. Students will enter the building and have their temperatures taken and given hand sanitizer.  The morning bell will ring at 7:30 am, and instruction will begin at 7:40 am. Children will be counted tardy at 7:40 am.

Bus Riders - Our bus lane will now be located at the front of the school. We will begin unloading buses at 7:00 am. Students will enter the building and have their temperatures taken and be given hand sanitizer.

All students will eat breakfast in their classrooms. Students will be socially distanced in the building during arrival time.

FIRST DAY PROCEDURES FOR ARRIVAL - Parents will not be able to walk their children in on the first day. There will be staff to assist children to their classrooms. We still want to celebrate everyone’s first day of school, so parents are encouraged to send a picture of their children’s first day of digital learning to Frontier Elementary Facebook Messenger, and we will highlight our students on Facebook!

There will be no visitors permitted on campus unless there is a scheduled meeting. All visitors will be asked to wear masks, take their temperatures, and sanitize their hands. All visitors will wait for their children in the security vestibule area. For safety reasons, “outside” food deliveries will not be allowed, and parents will not be able to bring outside food to the schools. This includes birthday cupcakes/cookies/treats.

Receptionists will help parents who need to check out a child throughout the school day. Students will not be allowed to check out after 3:00 pm due to bus pick-up/dismissal.

Breakfast will be eaten in the classrooms. All students will all receive a free breakfast. Cafeteria snacks will not be available for purchase.

Teachers have set up classrooms so the students will be socially distanced. Students will have opportunities for small group instruction and group work throughout the day as long as masks are worn. Students will not share supplies or work areas. Classrooms will be sanitized throughout the day by the teacher and in the evenings by the custodial staff.

Students will need to bring their own supplies, and we will not allow students to share. Since parents are not able to walk children in on the first day, they may put their school supplies in students’ backpacks. If they have too much to carry in their backpacks the first day, parents can send a few items daily.

There will be signage and markings that indicate social distancing throughout the building.

Teachers will take scheduled restroom breaks with their classes for handwashing. Students will also be able to go individually in cases of emergency. Every child will have his/her own personal restroom pass that will be used if he/she needs to go during class time. Students will hang their restroom pass outside the restroom door. We will teach students if there are already two passes hanging outside the restrooms that they will have to wait. We will have designated spots that are socially distanced for the students to wait for their turn to use the restroom. The students will be given hand sanitizer throughout the day.

Students will not be permitted to drink directly from the water fountains. We ask that parents send a water bottle daily that can be refilled. The water bottle needs to be washed and sent back daily.

Students will participate in specials daily. During specials (P.E., Music, Library), they will only be with their homerooms. These teachers will ensure supplies are sanitized between classes. Students will be allowed a “mask break” if they are able to socially distance during elective time. The P.E. teacher might take students outside if weather permits. Students will be given hand sanitizer when they enter their elective classes and when they leave their elective classes.

Students will have a scheduled recess during the day. The students will be playing with their class on an assigned area of the playground. We will allow the children to take off their masks when they are outside as long as social distancing is possible. If it rains, students will participate in “indoor recess,” which will consist of body movement activities provided by the teacher. Students will be given hand sanitizer when they go out to recess and when they come back in from recess.

All students will eat in classrooms. All students will receive a free lunch. Parents may send a lunch kit (packed lunch) with their child. No lunch deliveries will be accepted, and we will not allow lunch visitors.

Dismissal will be at 3:20 pm. All students will be socially distanced as they move throughout the building to their dismissal destinations.

To ensure the safety of all students, parent “walk ups” will no longer be included as part of the dismissal plan. Car riders will be dismissed through the large, side parking lot. We will have car rider tags for parents to display in cars to help expedite the loading process. We ask for patience at the beginning of the year because we know we will have a lot more car riders than normal. Once everyone learns the procedures, the car rider line will get smoother and faster.

Bus riders will dismiss from the front of the building. Due to bus dismissal, parents will not be allowed to check out students after 3:00 pm.

All safety drills will continue to be practiced throughout the school year. Fire drills and severe weather drills will be practiced one grade level at a time to maintain social distancing and prevent congested hallways. Lock down drills and shelter-in-place drills will be practiced schoolwide. Students will remain in classrooms.

For safety reasons, we will not have an in-person “Meet-the-Teacher” evening. Teachers will begin contacting parents by phone the week of August 10-14 to "meet” and ensure everyone is set up and ready to begin online learning on August 17.

Parents may request to change a student’s learning model, and those requests will be processed according to the following timelines:

    • Initial request to go from Online Learning to On-Campus Learning will be processed within 5 days.
      • Those students who make multiple requests to change from Online Learning to On-Campus Learning will be required to wait until the end of the nine-week grading period.
    • Requests to change from On-Campus Learning to Online Learning will be processed within 1 school day.

If there is a positive COVID-19 case or if someone has COVID-19 symptoms at a campus, the campus will send a letter home with the students. If a child has come in close contact with the infected or possibly infected individual, the parent will receive a direct call from the campus.

Due to privacy laws and rules, we cannot identify the person, student or staff, who has tested positive or who has symptoms. We will initiate our COVID-19 sanitizing and disinfecting protocols for the campus, and we urge you to continue to talk with your child about the proper safety precautions he or she can take while at school.

We will continue to participate and encourage best safety practices at school, which include washing hands, use of hand sanitizer, wearing masks and/or face shields, and social distancing. If you have questions, please contact your child’s principal.

Parents need to make sure to keep contact information in Skyward updated. There exists a possibility that we may need to have a classroom, a campus, or the entire school district resume Online Learning for an extended period of time, and we want to make sure that we have the most updated information on file to reach parents as soon as possible.
