AHS Singer Harmonizes Her way to State

Nidia Guevara-Nolasco

AHS junior Nidia Guevara-Nolasco spent this week at the Texas Music Educator’s Convention San Antonio as a member of the 2019 All-State Choir!

More than 72,000 students entered the All-State process this year and Guevara-Nolasco was one of only 1,780 students from around Texas selected to perform in 15 All-State ensembles (bands, choirs, and orchestras).

This week she participated in three days of rehearsals directed by nationally-recognized conductors during the TMEA’s annual convention and she sang for the thousands of attendees to bring the event to a close on Feb. 16.

This is Guevara-Nolasco’s first-time competing in the state competition and director Tony Stewart said he’s so proud that her hard work has paid off with such a big way.

“It is believed that All-State is the single highest honor a Texas high school singer can achieve,” he said. “She’s made region before and also earned a spot in an American Choral Director’s Association choir, but this is her first time making state. It is very competitive and on top of that, we are in one of the more competitive regions in the state, so this is a huge accomplishment and I am so happy for her.”
