AHS student donates blood while Health Science students help

Our CTE Health Science program recently hosted a highly successful blood drive in partnership with the Gulf Coast Blood Center, resulting in 69 total donors participating and giving life-saving donations of whole blood, plasma, and red cells!

Health Science student records vital information at blood driveThis real-world experience provided students with invaluable learning opportunities that connect directly to their classroom studies. Beyond the immediate impact on the community, the students gained knowledge about:

  • Real-Life Science: The importance of different blood types and the critical role of blood donation in hospitals.

  • Teamwork and Logistics: Working together to plan and execute a major community event.

  • Career Exposure: Observing professional medical procedures performed by nurses, phlebotomists, and medical technologists, giving them first hand exposure to various health science careers.

  • Compassion and Community: Witnessing how a simple act of volunteering can make a profound difference in the community.
