Kindness

February Focus: Kindness

This month, our hallways aren't just filled with the sounds of learning—they are filled with the spirit of Kindness. As part of our Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) initiative, we are intentionally focusing on what it means to be "Lead Worthy" by putting others first.

What is Kindness?

In a CKH classroom, kindness isn't just "being nice." It is a Lead Worthy characteristic defined by:

  • Intentionality: Choosing to lift someone up through words or actions.

  • Empathy: Recognizing how others feel and responding with care.

  • Action: Taking the initiative to help without being asked.

What This Means for Our Students

For our students, kindness is the foundation of a "Safe Launch." When students feel seen and supported by their peers, their brains move out of "survival mode" and into "learning mode." This month, students are practicing:

  • Random Acts of Kindness: Small gestures that shift the culture of a classroom.

  • Affirmations: Using our "Affirmation Stations" to give specific, meaningful praise to one another.

  • Inclusion: Ensuring no one sits alone and everyone’s voice is heard during group activities.

The Impact on Our Teachers

Our educators know that we cannot capture a child's mind until we first capture their heart. By focusing on kindness, teachers are seeing:

  • Reduced Conflict: Students are equipped with the tools to resolve disagreements with grace.

  • Stronger Connections: The "Social Contract" in each classroom becomes more than just words on a wall; it becomes a living promise to treat each other with dignity.

"Kindness is the only service that will stand the storm, for it is the only thing that is never out of fashion."

Bringing the Focus Home

We invite our parents and community members to join us! You can support our February focus by asking your child at the end of the day:

  1. "Who were you kind to today?"

  2. "Who showed you kindness today?"

  3. "How did it feel to make someone else's day better?"

Together, we are building a culture where every child feels valued, heard, and cared for.
