Partnering with Our Community 🤝 We believe this focus on Self-Direction is powerful because it's a life skill that transcends the classroom. We invite parents and community members to reinforce this trait at home by: Encouraging Goal Setting: Ask your child what their goal is for the week and how they plan to achieve it. Modeling Responsibility: Discuss a time you had to take responsibility for a mistake and how you corrected it. Supporting Reflection: When a challenge arises, ask your child, "What was your choice, and what did you learn from it?" By working together, we can empower our students to be proactive, purposeful, and self-directed leaders in their own lives, setting a strong foundation for future success. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work to Capture Kids' Hearts and develop Leadworthy citizens!
The Rancho Roundup: Your Weekly Parent & Community Update Important Dates & Announcements for Next Week We've got a busy and exciting week ahead at Rancho! Please take a moment to look over these updates and mark your calendars. Last Call for 'Slice the Price' Fundraiser! Time is running out! Our 'Slice the Price' fundraiser is wrapping up and will only be going on for 6 more days. We're incredibly close to our goal, needing only around $300 to make it! Please keep up the great work selling those coupons—every purchase helps us reach our target and fund important resources for our students. Let's finish strong! Wednesday: Welcoming October with Color! Wednesday, October 1st, marks the beginning of a new month! To celebrate, our Kindergarten and Pre-K students will be learning about the color orange. We ask that everybody show their support and wear orange on Wednesday! The October Leadworthy Trait: Self-Direction For the month of October, the Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) program will focus on the Leadworthy trait of Self-Direction. We encourage all families to discuss this important trait at home! What is Self-Direction? Self-direction is the ability to guide yourself toward your goals and to decide who you want to be as a person. It involves exercising self-control and consistently doing the right thing, regardless of whether anyone is watching. This trait empowers students to take personal responsibility for their actions and helps them learn to regulate their own emotions. Self-Direction in Action Students can demonstrate self-direction through several practices: Goal Setting: Defining personal and academic goals. Action Planning: Creating a strategy to achieve their goals. Self-Assessing and Reflecting: Evaluating their own progress and learning from their experiences. Making Positive Choices: Taking initiative to improve themselves and their relationships. Don't Miss Out: National Library Card Sign-Up Month! September is National Library Card Sign-Up Month, and we're excited to share a wonderful opportunity for all our students to get a Brazoria County Library System (BCLS) library card! How to Get Your Card: Complete the form your child will bring home and return it to us as soon as possible. We’ll deliver all completed applications to the Angleton Library. Cards will be created and sent back to Rancho for distribution to your child. Having a library card opens the door to so many fantastic resources, including: Cloud Library (ebooks & audiobooks) The Library of Things (fun and useful items for checkout) Countless other learning and creativity tools! We encourage every student to take advantage of this valuable resource. Also, please encourage your children to use the Free Little Library located right outside the front of Rancho—it's a great way to grab a quick, free book! Thank you for your continued partnership and support! Have a great week!
this month's Leadworthy Trait: Empathy. 💖 Empathy is more than just feeling sorry for someone; it's about connecting with others on a deeper level by trying to understand their feelings and perspectives. As a Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase School, we focus on teaching our students to: Understand and share feelings: We encourage our students to be sensitive to what others are experiencing. Connect with the heart: We emphasize genuine care and compassion in our interactions. See different perspectives: We teach students to consider a situation from someone else's point of view before making a judgment. Build trust and safety: We foster a positive classroom culture where everyone feels safe and supported. By practicing these key actions, our students are building stronger relationships, preparing to be future leaders, and creating a more compassionate community. What does empathy mean to you? Let us know in the comments! #CapturingKidsHearts #Leadworthy #Empathy #CompassionateCommunity #SchoolCulture #StudentLeadership
