Ms. Mejia’s class has been working on a mini-project called “Una receta típica” (A Typical Recipe). Each student chose a traditional dish from their community, their country of origin, or a Spanish-speaking culture.
As part of the project, students:
📖 Researched the cultural background of their dish
📝 Wrote out the recipe with ingredients & preparation steps
🎨 Designed a visual presentation
In class, they presented their recipes entirely in Spanish, explaining the dish’s origin, cultural significance, and preparation process.
We’re so proud of their creativity, hard work, and dedication to learning both language and culture.

Lunch at Heritage is more than just a meal — it’s a time to connect with friends and celebrate our Wildcat values. Recently, our students have taken the lead in reciting the Wildcat Creed during lunch, reminding one another of the pride and principles we share. Way to go, Wildcats, for showing leadership and ownership! 💜🤍

Our 8th grade girls' volleyball teams hosted Central Junior High tonight in their first home game of the season! We didn't come away with the win, but we are so proud of how they played!

In Ms. Mejía’s Spanish class, students practiced using el imperativo by writing their own sets of instructions. They worked in pairs to create step-by-step directions using colorful game pieces and plastic figures (🐶 🏠 🚗 🌳 🧍). Afterwards, they swapped instructions with another group and had to follow them exactly! A fun and interactive activity provided an engaging way to strengthen both language skills and collaboration.

Please join us for our first PTO meeting of the year. At the conclusion of the PTO meeting we invite you to stay for our annual Title One Parent Information meeting. We can't wait to see you!

Mrs. Dorsett and Ms. Woodrome's Power Hour researched solar power and then worked through the design process to build their own solar ovens. They put their ovens to the test by making s'mores!

Congratulations to the HJH Theater Groundlings, who will be bringing The Ingenious Gentleman of La Mancha to life! We’re excited to see their creativity and talent shine!

📚Today in Ms. Rodgers' ELA, our students explored plot diagrams in a fun and creative way! We broke down the elements of a story—beginning, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution—and then students applied what they learned by drawing their own comic strips. ✏️
This activity not only helped them understand how stories are structured but also gave them a chance to show off their creativity and make their own mini-stories come alive. 🌟

Reminder: There will be no school on Monday, September 1, 2025.
Enjoy the long weekend! 🇺🇸

What a great first week at Heritage Junior High! Students were welcomed at the door, explored their new campus, and jumped right into meaningful learning experiences. We are so proud of the way they’ve started the year and how they are already building the Heritage Legacy!
