Northside Elementary recently hosted Brenda George and her S.T.O.P. (Stop-Talk-Overcome-Pain) team. The presentation for these 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders was about kindness to one another and to promote anti-bullying.

At the October meeting, the Angleton ISD Board of Trustees recognized several students for academic success, including top-ranking Angleton High School seniors Cayden Dorsett and Quade Weber for being named as Commended Students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. They also recognized 15 more high school students for receiving academic honors from the national College Board Recognition Program. Additionally, the board recognized Central Elementary teacher Norma Tanner-Tinnin for being selected as the 2024 AISD Latin Festival Hispanic Hero Teacher by the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as Northside Elementary for recently earning the distinction of Model PLC School from Solution Tree. After the recognitions, the board approved key action items for Heartland Elementary School and Heritage Junior High School, set to open fall of 2025. This included the purchase and installation of IP phone equipment and network equipment from MGT Impact Solutions, LLC for a total amount of $118,464.52. “This approval ensures that the new campuses will be fully equipped with the necessary technology infrastructure to support both student learning and administrative functions,” AISD Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Roberto Muñoz said. The board also approved updated District and Campus Improvement Plans, which outline specific goals and strategies to enhance student achievement and school performance in the upcoming academic year. “While these plans are federally mandated each year, we look at this as a great opportunity for campuses and the district to review our practices and look for ways to improve,” AISD Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Talent Development Dr. Alicia Press said. Recently, the AB Marshall & Wright Education Association and Angleton ISD celebrated the legacy of AB Marshall High School at the 2024 Marshall All School Reunion. There was an alumni reunion parade that ended at the Marshall Memorial Garden. ATTENTION - Important Message from Angleton ISD - Tuesday, October 1, 2024 This morning before students arrived at the Central Elementary School at approximately 7:20, the City of Angleton Fire Department was dispatched to Central due to a fire alarm that was going off. Angleton ISD maintenance staff arrived as well at the same time. A small fire was found in an exterior mechanical room due to an air conditioning equipment malfunction. The fire was quickly extinguished by AISD personnel with a fire extinguisher that was in the mechanical room. Students or staff were never in danger, and no injuries occurred. There was smoke that entered the building, and it was quickly cleared. No odor remains in the building. Again, no students were in the building during the fire. Buses arrived at regular time and were unloaded as normal, but students were directed to the track area of the campus until the City of Angleton Fire Department cleared the building and deemed it safe to enter. The building was allowed to open, and students and staff were allowed back into the building at approximately 7:45 a.m. As a result of the fire, several classrooms will be without air conditioning until the system is repaired. Those classrooms will be moved to other parts of the building while the air conditioning system is restored. Classes at Central will continue as scheduled. Rezoning Update as of September 2024 - The district has reviewed the feedback gathered from the open survey that asked stakeholders to share input and ask questions about the upcoming rezoning that will take place in the 2025-2026 school year and about the preliminary drafts of new attendance zones presented. At last week’s Angleton ISD Board of Trustees meeting, AISD presented several reports. One was the facility report given by AISD Superintendent Phil Edwards and consultants from PBK, the architectural planning and design firm the district has paid to assess the current facilities throughout the district. PBK reviewed the condition of the current facilities and broke down potential renovation needs into priorities and cost estimates. The review started in January 2024, and PBK architects completed site walks with various engineers. In addition to site visits, the firm surveyed AISD staff at different facilities, asking for their input on the sites. PBK Senior Project Manager Elizabeth Giusti says it is important to consider the usual “wear and tear” on a facility in relation to the age of some of the facilities. “We found that all of your campuses have been well maintained, but several of the needs throughout the district stem from systems just nearing the end of their life cycle,” Giusti said. “It’s also important to consider the equity of campuses, especially when comparing the existing ones to the new schools being built that will have new, more state-of-the-art structures, resources and systems.” PBK Principal Architect Sofia Dusek also says the report looked at several factors when analyzing and prioritizing the needs throughout the district. “We prioritized these needs into three levels looking at the Facility Condition Index (FCI) of each school, which is a tool that measures the condition of a facility and is used to help make decisions about maintenance, budgeting and upgrades,” she said.
