All 35 students and the staff on board were safely evacuated, and all parents of the students on the bus were called. Students were transferred to another bus to be taken to their schools.

Bond 2025 - In August, the AISD Board of Trustees called for a $150 million bond that voters will consider this November. The proposal focuses on replacing three aging schools which would cost more to repair:
🏫 Northside Elementary - 73 years old
🏫 Southside Elementary - 70 years old
🏫 Angleton Junior High - 45 years old
AISD has reduced the tax rate by 42¢ since 2018 including the most recent reduction by 1¢ in 2025. If the bond referendum is approved, the tax rate is expected to remain the same through 2031. Future new home growth and legislation may lower the rate further. Property values are frozen for taxpayers 65 and older.
Remember, if you are registered to vote and live within AISD boundaries, you can vote—even if you don’t live in the City of Angleton.
Early Voting: now through Friday, October 31
Election Day: November 4

We’re also looking for helping hands!
Volunteer Training is TODAY, Monday, October 27, with sessions from 3:15–3:45 PM and 4:30–5:15 PM in Room A610 at AJH. The market, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, is a student-run program that gives back to our community — and we need volunteers to help keep things running smoothly.

BOND 2025 - If the bond is approved, the tax rate is projected to remain the same as the current rate of $1.0219 through 2031 and begin lowering in 2032—or sooner as new neighborhoods are built within the district. The chart below shows the maximum tax rate expected.
If approved, with the 1¢ tax reduction set by AISD in August and the increase in the homestead exemption of $140,000, voters will experience an estimated tax savings of about $400 depending on the value of the homestead.
Without the bond, the tax rate is expected to decrease by 4¢ in 2027 resulting in an additional tax savings of about $80 for the year (depending on homestead value).
AISD remains committed to sharing accurate information so the community can make informed decisions. The district is asking voters to consider foregoing the additional tax savings in order to replace Angleton Junior High, Northside Elementary and Southside Elementary.
Remember, if you are registered to vote and live within AISD boundaries, you can vote—even if you don’t live in the City of Angleton.

Congratulations to Westside Elementary Dual Language teacher Mrs. Enedelia Olvera, who was named the Hispanic Hero Educator by the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce!
Each year, the Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce selects teacher representatives from throughout the county as Brazoria County Hispanic Hero Educators. This award honors educators who demonstrate exceptional leadership, professional excellence, community involvement, and a deep commitment to their students. Ms. Olvera was chosen by her AISD peers—an incredible testament to the impact she has made in her classroom and beyond.
She was recognized last month at the Chamber’s Brazoria County Latin Festival and again at this month’s AISD Board Meeting, where representatives from the Chamber joined us in celebrating her achievement.
Thank you, Ms. Olvera, for your dedication to your students, our community, and the teaching profession. This honor is so well-deserved!

In memory of their daughter Dakota and "Go Gold" in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness, the Thomas family provided gold athletic tape for several of the Wildcat student groups to wear at the last home game, including the Wildcat Football Team. Our Wildcats wore gold that night for Dakota, for all children who continue to fight, for those who have won their battle and for those we remember.
Dakota’s family accepted the award on her behalf. A heartfelt tribute to her spirit and the love she continues to inspire.
Join us at Wildcat Stadium tonight as the Wildcats take on Friendswood at 7 pm! You might just be our next Fan of the Game! GO CATS!

Calling all Volunteers!
The Angleton Junior High School Market is gearing up for another great year of serving our community — and we need your help! The market, in partnership with the Houston Food Bank, is a student-run food pantry that provides fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, and shelf-stable items to the community, regardless of income. Volunteers — both students and adults — help distribute food, assist with intake, and keep the market running smoothly. The pantry needs about 20-25 volunteers at each market.
Ready to volunteer? Join us for training on Monday, October 13, from 3:30–4:20 PM in Room A610 at Angleton Junior High.
Contact Mrs. Bowie Cruz for more information at tbowie@angletonisd.net.
