Message from Angleton ISD Superintendent - Thursday, February 27, 2025 This morning, Central Elementary went into “secure” mode as a safety precaution due to the threat at the nearby Brazoria County Courthouse. No other schools were placed in the “secure” mode as they were not directed by emergency officials to do so. The “secure” mode is one of the district’s emergency response protocols. Students and staff are brought inside the building, and all outside doors are locked. No one from outside is allowed inside during the “secure” mode, but the school operates as normal inside. Also, students are held in the building and not released until the school has been cleared to do so. At approximately 11:45 a.m., Central Elementary was cleared for a controlled release of students by emergency officials, allowing students to be released in a safe and orderly manner. Central Elementary was taken off of “secure” mode at approximately 1:00 p.m., and the school returned to regular day procedures. The controlled release continued until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the continued safety of our students, staff and community. “The safety of our students and staff continues to be our top priority, and I am proud of how our Central Elementary staff and AISD Police worked to get the school in ‘secure’ mode both safely and quickly,” AISD Superintendent Phil Edwards said. “Also, we appreciate the hard work of all the emergency personnel from the county and city as well as from our AISD Police Department who were thorough in their work to make sure our students, staff and community were safe.”

At its February meeting, the Angleton ISD Board of Trustees took key actions to support district growth, academic performance and future planning. Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum Vicki Harmon presented the 2023-2024 Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), which measures the district’s academic performance against state standards. The report shows that AISD students are outperforming state requirements in the “Approaches and Meets” categories in most subjects. Additionally, the district saw improvement in several areas where administrators had set internal improvement goals. “Our goal is to exceed state standards, and we are proud of the growth we have seen and that our students are continuing to surpass expectations set by the state,” Harmon said. “We want to capitalize on the success we have had and continue to increase performance, and we will do so by remaining focused on supporting our students and our staff to achieve our goals and to provide the academic standards of excellence expected at AISD.” After reviewing the data from the state, the district has also identified reading performance in 3rd grade as a growth area, specifically noting that the 3rd-grade group were the students severely affected by COVID and were just entering school when the pandemic hit causing them to miss critical school time. Other topics covered in this month's meeting include; bond issuance, district calendar and more. To read the full blog visit: www.angletonisd.net/bytheboard

Important Message from Angleton ISD - Due to the potential safety risks, portable propane heaters are not allowed at Angleton ISD events, including all sporting events. Their use presents significant safety hazards: fire risks, carbon monoxide exposure, tip-over burn risks, and fuel storage and leakage risks. AISD encourages spectators at sporting events to bring their own heated seating pads or blankets and to dress in layers when at outdoor events. We appreciate your help in keeping our events safe and ensuring they are enjoyable events for all.

Follow the yellow brick road to Angleton High School. AISD Director of Theater Christine Williams and her students invited elementary students to watch a children's theater performance of The Wizard of Oz. It was a great way to show students what the theater program is all about. It also showcased the talented students currently in the program.

Important Message from Angleton ISD - Tuesday, February 4, 2025 We want to make you aware that a neighboring school district recently released information related to a social media threat targeting their school district. Unfortunately, when one area school district is dealing with an issue like this, it often spreads fear and false rumors to other school districts. Again, this is not happening at Angleton ISD. We ask parents and students for their help in making sure false information does not spread. If you hear of a threat, the best thing you can do is report the threat through one of the district reporting resources. Please do not spread unverified information or rumors on social media. This only increases the fear for our Wildcat community. Our reporting systems are: -- Contact or tell a campus administrator. -- Contact or tell the AISD Police (979-997-7220). -- Use the Anonymous Alerts system through the app or by clicking https://report.anonymousalerts.com/angletonisd/ or by visiting the AISD website and going to Keep AISD Safe (See it, Report it). -- Call Crime Stoppers at 800-460-2222. Also, we ask parents to continue to talk to their children about not making threatening statements–whether on social media, in writing or verbally–and to avoid escalating situations through their behavior on social media. AISD does not tolerate violence or threats of violence in our schools. We will assign disciplinary consequences accordingly. We also work with our AISD Police Department and inform local, state and federal law enforcement officials to ensure appropriate legal consequences are given as well. Our top priority is always the safety of our students and staff, and we thank you for helping us as we work to ensure we keep our schools safe. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s principal.
